昔からメディカルな研究には興味のなかったカタリーナ。治療薬よりタイムマシーン重視なのもそれでかー。じゃー、しょうがないよねぇ的納得。
Cassie: We have a mutual friend who is very sick, maybe dying.
Jones: Who?
Cassie : Cole, James Cole.
Jones: You're probably looking for my mother. I'm not that kind of a doctor. I'm a physicist.
Cassie: Please listen to me. We need to talk.
Jones: Well, maybe you'll call my office in the morning. There is no time.
Cassie: If you don't help me, Cole will die. And I won't let that happen.
2015年のジョーンズに助けてもらうという手があったか！と。キャシーがジョーンズにタイムトラベルについて信じさせなければいけないというすごい皮肉。
Jones: This technology it's not published. It's just a theory. It's a prototype serum that I designed for Project Splinter just the one. It's not possible.
Cassie: But my friend and one day, your your friend is from the future where it is possible. You you, the future you sent him here. And now he's dying. Please help me save him.
ここでキャシーとジョーンズが会っていたということは2043年のジョーンズはこの日が来るのを知っていたということになるわけで。でも、だったら伝染病はやっぱり止められないってことなのか？？？
Cole: Where have you been?
Cassie: Cole. Uh, that address in your pocket, the one the other me gave you in 2017. I went there.
Cole: What'd you find?
Jones: You must be Mr.Cole.
Cole: Jones. But how You knew. You've always known me.
Jones: It appears so. But maybe your "always" and my "always" are not the same.
Cole: Why didn't you tell me?
Jones: I'm sure I had my reasons. I need blood samples.
Cole: You don't change, do you?
このシーンが結構好き。命が尽きかけてるコールたんにとって過去とはいえジョーンズとの再会は嬉しかっただろうし、ずーっと自分のことジョーンズは知ってたと思ったって笑うコールたんもコールたんらしくてよいなと（はいはい）。
Cassie: She can help.
Cole: I die, you die. Nothing anyone can do will change that.
Cssie: I got Jones here, didn't I?
Cole: Jones is here because she's always come here. It's fate.
Cassie: There's no such thing as fate.
Cole: Cassie, it's over.
自分がこうなることもジョーンズは知っていたし、失敗することもわかっていたとなると、結局何も変えられないんじゃんと思うコールたんの気持ちはわかる。このことがあったからこそジョーンズは信念をもってタイムマシーンの研究を続けてこられたんだろうし、スプリンター計画も強引に推し進めてきたんだろうけれど...。でもコールたんが過去でジョーンズにあうこと自体、パンデミックが発生しないと起こらないことだから....あら？
Jones: He's not just a friend. He's more to you. Much more. How did you meet him?
Cassie: I told you. They found a recording that I make and the future you sent him here to find me.
Jones: And you believed his story?
Cassie: No, but he brought my watch with him from the future, and he broke time.
Jones: The same watch from his time?
Cassie: Yes.
Jones: That's profoundly risky.
Cassie: I know. It caused a paradox. It almost killed us.
Jones: Yeah. Mother Nature doesn't like it if you rearrange her furniture.
Cassie: Right.
Jones: That must have been extraordinary to see matter coming in contact with itself. Wait, just a moment. Um, when was Mr.Cole born?
Cassie: Uh, 2009, I think. Why?
Jones: Splintering has corrupted his genetic composition at a molecular level, but if his current DNA were introduced to his original molecular structure, it might undo the quantum shifting.
Cassie: A paradox. To save his life?
Jones: Possible.
Cassie: We could get a blood sample from the original Cole.
Jones: It might work.
キャシーとジョーンズが協力すればパンデミックも防げるんじゃないかという具合にいいコンビぶり。
Cassie: Okay, so you are Matthew Cole?
Matthew: I'm not usually the paranoid type, but the boy's mother was always well, let's just say that she gave me a reason to worry about James.
Jones: Of course. Protective parents are perfectly natural.
Cole: Dad, I can't get this to work. Can you
Matthew: Whoa, whoa, whoa. What word was that? I don't think I heard you right.
Cole: I can't.
Matthew: We don't use that word around here. The only failure
Cole: Is giving up.
Matthew: Exactly, now why don't you work on that a little by yourself and I'll come help, okay? Good boy.
6才のコールたんをキャシーとジョーンズが見つけた時、もうコールたんは永遠にこの二人には頭あがんないんだろうなぁと思ってしまった。でもここにコールたん、ずっといたんだなぁとなんか感動。しかもあの頑固な性格はお父さんの教育の賜物かーみたいな。お父さんもなんかいい感じだし。コールたん、ちゃんと愛されて育ってる。
Cassie: I'm gonna tell you the truth.
Jones: Oh, God, help us.
Cassie: You're gonna find this hard to believe, but it's just
Jones: Nearly impossible, I'd say.
Matthew: You need to leave.
Cassie: Please, I'm telling the truth.
Matthew: Lady, that boy is the only thing in this world matters to me. I don't know what kind of game you're playing here, but I...

Jones: I think we should go. Let's go.

Matthew: Did Marion send you?
Cassie: Who?
Matthew: Marion, the boy's mother. Last time I saw her, she was on about some monkey army. Told me I had to protect him.
Cassie: Your son, the grown-up James Cole, he needs you.
Matthew: Right, and who are you to him exactly?
Cassie: Look. Come with us. Look into his eyes. If you don't see your son there, then you can leave, and we will not bother you again. But if you won't come he'll die.
直球勝負でコール・パパを説得しようとするキャシー。しかし、どうやら12匹のお猿さん軍団のことをパパさん知っていた様子。この件にコールたんのお母さんがどう関わっているのか...。
Cassei: Cole?
Cole: Hey.
Cassie: Hey. There's someone here to see you.
Cole: Huh?
Matthew: James?
Cole: Dad?
お父さんと再会したコールたん。コールたんは孤児院で育ったと言っていたから、こんないいお父さんがいたなんで想像もしなかった。奇妙な形ではあるけれども再会できてよかった。
Matthew: I have to say, that boy saved my life. Before he came along, I wasn't much of a man.
Cole: Can you... can you tell me about my mother?
Matthew: I didn't know her that well. Marion. I loved her like crazy, but it was a short thing. I asked her to marry me, but she wouldn't. Then took off pretty soon after without saying much. When she tracked me down a year later, she had a kid. My son. You. Told me she couldn't protect you. I never understood what she was talking about, but I was grateful. Every day. Look at that. He's a... he's a good boy.
Cole: He won't always be. But I'm trying to make up for it. I'm sorry I can't...
Matthew: Hey. Don't use that word. The only failure Is
Cole: giving up.
Matthew: Exactly.
Cassie: Are you all right?
Matthew: Yeah, just trying to
Cassie: I know, I know. I'm so sorry.
Matthew: I just thought I'd be there for him. Always. This plague it'll get me for sure?
幼いコールたんをおいて自分が病気で死ぬと知るというのはお父さん、とんでもなく辛い。このシチュエーションでなくても親にとっては辛い。
Pallid Man: Where is he?
Matthew : Step ahead of you, asshole.
Pallid Man: Doubt it.
お父さんの死を幼いコールたんは目撃していたというこの悲しい結末。お父さんに銃をわたした時、コールたん、思い出してたんだろうな。辛かっただろうな。
Cole: You're just in time.
Pallid Man; Yes. It's over, Cole.
Cole: I know.
お父さんの仇がこの男だったってここでわかってしまったコールたん。
自分が死んだとしてもこいつだけは道連れにすると思って注射したにちがいない。
Jones: He'll be safe here with Child Protective Services.
Cassie: You're throwing away your cigarettes.
Jones: I've decided to keep the child. After all this, maybe my father was right. Love is never a mistake.
Cassie: But the plague you might not have much time.
Jones: I'm a scientist, Dr.Railly. I don't believe in fate.
コールたんとマシューの親子の絆をみたせいか、6才のコールたんの可愛さにほだされたのか子供を産む決心をしたジョーンズ。パンデミックのことを知りながら、産んだんだなぁ。その子を失ったことがスプリンター計画の大きな動機になることは話してないだろうけれど、この決断を見るのもちょっと複雑というか辛いものがあるなぁ。
Cole: I could tell you, you know. Who those men were, everything. Give you a chance to do it differently, give you a head start.
Jones: It's tempting, but no. It's just as likely to undo your work as it is to help mine. The causality of temporal physics is unpredictable. And if it is fate that our paths will cross again, then we'll find the answers together.
やっぱりコールたんも思ってる。この方法以外で何かこの世界を救う方法をジョーンズなら思いつけるかもしれないし、子供を失わずにすむかもしれない。
Jones: But listen, Mr.Cole, you have to understand, the paradox has destroyed your ability to travel back to your time. You live here now.
Cole: I know.
Jones: Good bye for now, Mr.Cole.
Cole: Good bye, Katarina.
カタリーナにとっては未来でまたコールたんと再会することになる。コールたんにとっては、このまま未来に帰れないならカタリーナにはもう会えないわけだから永遠のお別れに....ん？ ここからずっと生き延びておじいちゃん・コールとなって2043年にカタリーナの元に出現する可能性....も？
Cassie: Are you sure we should leave him here? Maybe I could see ...
Cole: He'll be all right. He'll make friends.
Ramse: You okay, kid? Don't be scared. It's okay here. I'm Jose. Show you around.
ラムジーとコールたんはここで出会うのか。ラムジーとのはじめの出会いをコールたんどんな気持ちで見つめていたんだろう。６才の時からずーっと一緒だったっていうことは、もうコールたんにとっては本当にラムジーは家族以外のなにものでもないし、ラムジーは幼いコールたんを連れてパンデミックの後の世界を生き延びたってことになる。コールたんが一緒に戦える年齢になるまで、ラムジーがずっと守ってあげてきたんだって思うと、二人の絆の強さは生半可じゃないはず。血のつながりには負けるのかなーって思っていたけれど、同等かそれ以上の強さがあるにちがいない。世界が壊れた時も二人はずっと一緒で、そのあともずっと助け合いながら生き延びてきたわけなんだから。このまま二人が敵味方にわかれたまんまってことはないと信じたい。12モンキーズ側に入り込んでいるラムジーと協力してなんとかするって展開だってありえるんじゃないかって。
